Wow. Way to sperg out. Op asked for portable emulation. The shield is huge compared to the generic android emulators. In my book portable is small enough to fit in the pocket. You have to carry a man purse for shield.

The xperia play (being used as an example, not necessarily a suggestion) is now selling for less than $100 if you shop around. It has enough power to emulate ps1 games flawlessly, and has no issue with snes (unlike the psp). This is a retro game board. Do you really need something more powerful than this if if does ps1 and older? Its a 2 year old phone. How many phones after 2 years are still supported by the manufacturer? Plus its comfortable as fuck. Gaming feels like texting

The shield may be more comfortable to hold than appearances make it look, but that d pad design still sucks. Ever sense the 360 came out its like every company forgot what a good dpad is. For retro games the dpad is to best way to play, unless you have an arcade stick.
