bsnes isn't bloated (never really heard that it was), it's just an emulator that strives to be an actual accurate SNES emulator and because of that you need a pretty good computer to run the "accurate" build of it.

And RetroArch is like a modular emulator program, on it's own it doesn't play anything, but there's cores you can get that can let you play games.

Screenshot will show the cores that are out there right now, and due to it being modular and all that, RetroArch can be easily compiled for other systems.
