While I can't confirm without a doubt, Sony's remotes do seem to work universally among their sets, from CRTs to flatscreens and even some other misc electronics equipment.

I don't have any real experience with those mid 90s black cased sets, but it wouldn't surprise me if you actually needed to open it up to make such adjustments.
