Can someone give me the QRD on what the difference between original and enhanced mode for Ironwail changes?
As far as I can tell visually it's mostly just colored fog from the Steam version? I mainly ask since I'm unsure whether to point my Quake Injector downloads to the enhanced or original Steam directory for playing user maps. I assume original mode is closer what mappers intend it to look like so should I just use that?

I only ask because I'm out of the loop and want to get back into Arcane Dimensions and other usermaps. I used vanilla Quakespasm before but heard Ironwail is a better fork so I tried it out, it certainly has a lot of options and the mod menu is nice so I'd like to stick with it.

The Steam version wasn't so bad either admittedly but I feel only the baby mode easy multiplayer setup is really the only use case I find it good for at this point (can easily convince friends to play that over jumping through installation hoops). Long ago I used Darkplaces and I shudder at the thought of going back to it, I don't know how I tolerated such an ugly sourceport... then again before even that all I knew for Quake was the DS and Wii homebrew ports. Good times.

Yeah I wanted to make a mod for Quake 1 that gave the weapons random damage (not painfully random, just random like doom does it kinda). And make the SNG visibly fire 2 nails at a time that both appeared like the brown nailgun nails... for consistency.
I couldnt even get the damn .qc files to compile, and it was hard as hell finding the things I needed to change, and I didnt have any qc reference to tell me the syntax for a randomize function.
I couldnt figure out how to get the Makefile to work.

Doom editing has gotten alot easier over the years, but even in the days of Wintex and Dehacked you could get something going in a few days. Back then the real chokepoint was Mapping because nobody, I repeat, nobody had a WYS map editor

Graphic demanding doesnt mean shit. They did awesome things with what was available. The graphics were stunning, they were candy, and the UT2003 assault rifle was better but you could still use the model for that one if you wanted.

Bifrost Bases and Icefields (both are bombing run maps) were absolutely fucking awesome, the only problem with bifrost was some poor texture resolution on the terrain but it was understandable for the size of the map. All of the Egypt stuff especially BR/Anubis and Face3 was Grade A and eye popping.

If you havent noticed, I give NO shits about Shadows.
Simple blob shadow beneath the character is fine for me.
I dont generally give a shit about Water either, as long as its not actually "blue" like it is in doom, because water just isnt that way (Brown yucky water is more likely). HL2 and Red Faction 2 managed water pretty well in my book, I dont need anything more than that.

A common thread im weaving here is its not how demanding the game is its what it DOES with the tools it has available. Shaders suck, they're a lazy excuse for not making textures better in the first place. They should be used sparingly as projectors.

yeah and looking at the weathermaps almost daily since may its like the weather gods were smiting me personally because almost every single day this place was right on the edge of that hot shit... while just 100-200km over to the east it was nice 25C type weather that only got better the farther up to ohio or new york you go.

Used future has some romantacism to it, romantic settings are often orange and reddish as lit by candle light and decorated with maroon. Candle light also being yellowish the blaster shots were also yellow reminiscent of flareguns rather than covenant elite plasma rifle bright blue.
> not to mention Red Text on computers as opposed to ghostly blue, evoking visceral responses rather than flighty ones
> the emulsifying vats were pink in color like mcdonalds chicken nuggets, as opposed to nukage green or dark red blood
Used Future is also dirty and rusty and both of these things are brown. Carmack was playing Used Future 100% to the hilt and through this made it so perfect that it even contributed to the artistic definition of Used Future.

Arachnotron
Because weaving in and out of plasma shots is likely going to cost you a hit or two and if you're running kinda low on health thats a big deal even if it doesnt kill you. Because someone else will after that.

Also while I dont normally have a problem dealing with them, they do excellent work on infighting other monsters. And I have died ALOT of times to arachnotrons when im not giving a shit, so it goes to show just how deadly they are if you dont watch yourself.
- An underestimated fact about Arachnotrons is they are large bricks and cannot be pushed around, even if you can easily chainsaw/gun them into oblivion it means they can also block the means of escape while something else, quite often an HK or Fatso rips off your pants and proceeds to speed rape you.
> An Arachnotron in the wrong place can buy the other monsters just enough time to destroy you, and if you neglect the Arachnotron it will destroy you instead and up close it will not miss.

unfortunately unlike other eldritch deities and various monster overlords that might gloat or leave themselves open to attack, nyarlathothep was known for his intelligence and was well, god-tier when it came to that
> chooses to fight the player on the first map
> there's no weapons or ammo on the map, he removed all of them
> makes the player an offer instead, interprets "no" to mean yes in a very obtuse legalistic manner and transforms the player into a box of condoms so he will be used by women for sex

holy shit I never though I would see the day.

I still want to go through and make sure all the map exits etc work, and there are some random brushes not rendering on the start map, but we will probably release an alpha here tomorrow.

Thanks for bearing with us all this time...

Thanks for reminding me...

Does anybody have any sprite versions of the Quake1 Grunt or Enforcer soldiers?
