Nice. Always good to hear that somebody coming into it later is able to enjoy it.

I think there's a real quality to the simplicity of the stealth in MGS1 (and 2), I don't really expect most people to agree on that, but I love how they're designed and just how straight forward the stealth is, there's no reliance on crawling or camouflage, it's a simple game of cat and mouse more or less. I actually enjoy playing 1 and 2 way more than I enjoy playing 3. The flow of the gameplay was kind of ruined with 3, there's virtually no close-quarters sneaking in that game, you simply can't do it, it wasn't designed for it, good luck sneaking into an area like Rassvet head on and trying to navigate it without crawling or tranquilizing the guards, the game just wasn't made with that in mind. There's a reason that game gave you the science outfit, because sneaking inside of interiors just isn't possible in that game, it's a completely miserable experience. MGS3 is all about keeping a great distance from your enemies, and even that gets undermined by the overpowered tranquilizer gun.

MGS1 you had no tools to really deal with the enemies, there was no first person shooting, and you couldn't aim at weak spots of enemies, so you were left in tight spots having to navigate around the enemy, and this to me is a hell of a lot more fun than crawling around on the ground at a snails pace, or picking your enemies off at a distance. This is also why I think MGS2 doesn't get enough credit for its gameplay, it is actually designed in a very smart way, narrow hallways, and a lot of corners and objects obfuscating enemies, that and the guards reporting their status, you're constantly kept on your toes in that game, sure it is incredibly straight forward and looks almost banal compared to MGS3 on the surface, but the gameplay on a moment to moment basis is just so much more engaging to me.
