Speaking of "secret areas found through fake walls", there is one in this level in Castlevania X68000, just on the left of where this screenshot was taken. There is tons of loot there.

Chronicles has fucked up hit detection, fucked up enemy/bosses AI, cropped aspect ratio at the top, timing issues, worse sound and musics

Some of the details

>hit detection
The whip has a bigger hitbox on the Y axis. This lead to letting the player hit enemies in situations where he shouldn't be able to otherwise. For instance, pic related would be a hit on Chronicles, while in the original it would take to do a more skillful jump+downward whip attack. There are also instances where you'd need to crouch to hit the target but in Chronicles you don't need it, most notably with the She-Wolf boss that sometimes crouches to dodge the whip, which has no effect in Chronicles.

>Enemy/Bosses AI
Some examples: the shattered glass enemy in stage 3 is more likely to back off like a scared wimp in Chronicles, while in the original he's more likely to attack.
The Fake Belmont, you can just crouch in the middle of the arena and spam the whip to win in Chronicles. Try that in the og.

>cropped screen at the top
The game has lot's of vertical scrolling. Not only this means you're less likely to see threats coming, like that infamous cog that falls on your head at the clock tower; but this also means some enemies will spawn and attack later than they should, like with the dolls.

>timing issues
The most obvious being the clock which depletes faster in Chronicles. In fact, it's pretty very hard to beat the prison level with Death at the end without dying due to time and using a checkpoint along the way. If you know it by heart and hurry, you'll have 20 seconds left at the end, vs 100+ by doing the same thing in the original.
In "Arrange" mode they let you turn the clock off to hide their failure.

The game emulates perfectly using XM6 so you have no excuse. Forget Chronicles even exists.
>sound and music
Whipping candles sounds like you're popping balloons in Chronicles. Nuff said. it's like they couldn't convert the audio right.

>cropped screen
The top of the screen is cropped in the PS1 version. This leads to enemies loading later than they should during vertical scrolling sections, sometimes making the game easier, sometimes harder; or making it almost impossible to see a certain gear falling on your head.

>fucked hit detection for the whip
The whip has bigger hit detection on the PS1 version especially on the Y-axis, making the game a LOT easier than it should be. Plenty of situations where you can hit stuff that you shouldn't be able to hit, for instance pic related would be a hit on PS1.

>Enemy AI differences
Some enemies and bosses don't have faithful AI; like the one made out of shattered glass which is more scared and less likely to attack; or the Fake Belmont boss, in the PS1 version you can just stand there crouching spamming the whip against him, try that in the OG version and you'll get ass raped.

>Timing differences
There are some, most notably the clock being faster leading to the level with Death at the end almost impossible to complete on the PS1 version because time depletes faster than it should.
