>I read on another page that the SCART port can be modded for RGB by adding 3 volts to pin 8:
The purpose of pin 8 is to switch the set to that input when 5-12V is applied or enable 16:9 under 9V (if supported).
1-3V on pin 16 enables the RGB pins.

>The two round ports look similar to S-video but they were proprietary connectors for vcrs, home computers, ect.
>proprietary connectors
No, this type of DIN 6 as AV connector is rather very obsolete instead of proprietary. I saw TVs with these and they usually predate SCART in outside of France by a couple of years.

>With CRTs getting older and older
And i assure you that this cycle will continue. That CRTs itself from 80s and newer die of just getting old is very uncommon (if you ignore burn in issues). The only 2 cases i remember was one huge Philips tube from the 90s which showed a green picture with retrace lines and adjusting the screen grid voltage didn't help and one 16:9 Telefunken tube which electron guns started to dim and glitch out after some time.
Usually everything around the CRT dies, like the speakers and IR receiver in my bigass Trinitron.

>not actually required for almost any game. Only one i can think of off the top of my head is punchout
What are light gun games?
Even if you use a HDTV CRT with built in upscaler it will not work because of the changed timing (not 15khz, Zapper filters them out) and input lag.

>debatable. Also configurable with high scale upscalers and flatscreens.
I crank up the contrast on both my CRT and TFT.
It's looks natural and vibrant on my CRT while the TFT is bright but it rather hurts my eyes much more like if i look into a desklamp.

Inspect the solder joints and caps.
>it all came down to the quiet fly-back transformer buzz accompanying the 15kHz whine.
How is the glue around the copper of the yoke?
See any cracks?
