Pardon my 'tism, but real pixel "art" is based on crafty use of repetition, limited palettes and tileset design.

I always found arcade games less interesting because of this: the obvious relaxed limitations made the results less appealing, like they're just using simple low-resolution artwork instead of a self-contained art form on its own right.

>That top screen is only utilizing 4 colors at once. If that's the best you can showcase then you're just reinforcing the other anon's point.
It's the best that can be showcase on the NES PERIOD, and there is no game this doesn't apply to.
Look at fucking Batman here, a game I'm sure pretty much everyone would agree is one of the best looking on the system.
What colors are there?
Green. Orange. Blue. Gray.
That's literally it, if you ignore sprites like you did with Kirby.

Try Darkwing Duck, Batman, Bucky O'Hare, Little Nemo, and Gremlins 2.
There's also a Duck Tales 2 if you haven't played that yet.

>You are expecting better from 8-bit consoles?
No. I expect crude graphics and that's usually what I get, and like I already said I wouldn't consider an NES game bad just because the graphics aren't exceptional. When I play and love games like Metal Storm it isn't because their wonderful graphics won me over.

But I'm not.
Art style is much more important than graphics on a technical level, and the best looking NES games have fantastic art styles. Batman and Batman: Return of the Joker are much more visually appealing than most SNES and Genesis games to me.
Thing is the NES's technical limitations prevent good art styles from being realized a lot of the time.

Nah, Kirby's Adventure is a great looking game, but it's outclassed by the visuals of games like Little Samson, Batman, and Gimmick!

>Gimmick!, like Kirby's Adventure, may not have terribly impressive static graphics
No, the graphics are fantastic, even in still screenshots.
The art isn't very detailed, but that's completely intentional.

Also, what about Batman?
