It depends on the game. On old console games, I tend to roll with CRT-Geom, which is the one pictured in the OP. On DOS games, however, I use this one, meant to give the games just a tiny bit of blur while still keeping them relatively sharp, similar to how a CRT monitor running at low resolution would.

Well, sometimes they did, actually. A lot of old DOS games that ran at 320x200, despite the fact that they were supposed to be shown in 4:3, still have objects that look rectangular or ovaled when you correct their aspect ratio.
