Are the SNES Shin Megami Tensei games worth playing? A bigger question is which games are good and worth playing and which aren’t? I’ve played the Persona games and want to delve deeper into the series

what is /vr/'s opinion on the smt series?

I've been playing SMT1 and have been having a lot of fun, compared to the usual fare of generic fantasy jrpg #9999 the setting is a lot of fun, the twist with the apocalypse happening was real cool. I'm currently stuck in Ginza though, and man this place has been fucking rough. the MC and the Gal are both at level 42 and I have level appropriate daemons yet I'm still getting stunlocked and killed by half of the demons here. Any tips?

is the first shin megami tensei game worth getting? i dont have a super famicom nor do i know any japan-ese, so im thinking about getting a repro cart that has the translated version on it for the snes. i looked on ebay and some of them were up there in the 30-50 dollar range, anyone know a place that sells good repros for SMT 1? and will repro carts fuck up my snes?
