Speaking of that I forgot to reveal the form of pause buffer I've been using. Similar to fighting games this game has an input buffer window to help do things in sequence. If you hit the b button and hold start immediately afterwards the game will unpause and repause within nearly the same frame. You can repeat this to give the game a chance to attempt to load. It doesn't always work but if you know you're on a frame that feels like the next one will definitely crash from something that isn't a missing item pick up model or just plain referencing something that won't show up you can use this to try and prevent it. You'll know you're doing it right because the screen framebuffer in the background will get darker and darker.
