the original dungeon keeper is better but quite a bit different than dungeon keeper 2 making both worth playing.

dk1:
everything uses gold (no mana to wait on but you could really screw yourself over too)

about 70% of the creatures are different though dk1 starts with boring ones like beetles and demon spawn but you eventually get trolls, dragons, and weird stuff like tentacles.

different rooms like the scavanging room

using a temple and sacrificing a bile demon, mistress, and troll you can obtain as many horned reapers as you want instead of playing halfway through the game and clicking a button. (be warned they get very mad after a while and go on a killing spree and it is very hard to prevent this)

it's pre-3d accelerator so just the landscape itself is 3d but everything else is nicely detailed sprites

you can torture the final boss in the game and covert him to your cause only to have to fight him again using himself to fight each other in some weird doppleganger fight.
