They don't do 240p content any real favors, and you're stuck with some delay no matter what, but they're pretty alright for 480p stuff.

"Scanlines" are only a thing for 240p/288p. PC monitors may given something similar to them on 480p and the like, but that's just the minuscule gaps between the actual drawn scanlines, something I wouldn't expect a TV's gun to be able to manage.

That was a 480i signal being fed to it. Feeding it 240p and then setting it to Progressive gives an even more stable image.

This is a video of the whole screen with that, and the same game):

Aand a related image from a different game.

>Are there any benefits at all to using a legit cabinet monitor over a TV with an aperture grille?
Directly compatible with actual arcade boards;
Being very barebones and as such relatively simple to repair should something go south.

The tubes used in arcade monitors aren't terribly special in older stuff, they're just bare bones chassis that are supposed to be easy to maintain, repair, and take a beating.

A PVM will look sharper and give more accurate colors (at least from a technical aspect) than an arcade monitor, but it may look sterile to some and outright wrong to others.

If you're looking to put just a standard Trinitron TV in a cabinet, it might not look as sterile, but it'll still look different than it originally did.

Their focus has to do with games that run at higher sync rates, like 24(Sega Model1/2/3) and 31khz(480p+)

Another issue may be stuff that runs at 53 or 55hz(R-Type and Mortal Kombat.

>That TV on that guy's image might be an EDTV
It's not. Not only does it not match the design that Sony's ED/HD sets had, but it's also too small.
The smallest Hi-Scan model Sony released was 27 inches.

The whole point here is that people do, have, and hypothetically use SCART in those situations, and that cutting down the number of conductors used can be done just the same with these cables as it can with better alternatives, i.e DE-15/VGA cables; In that case, a DB-9 would be more fitting, but still.

I don't get what you're having so much trouble understanding.
My original post was only pointing out that you chose to mention DE-15 in the post, but not in the image where it would have fit better than D-Terminal, which has little to no use for anything retro or CRT related with few exceptions,.
I've repeatedly said now that I'd like to go to DE-15/VGA or straight up BNC at some point.
Wasn't calling it shit, wrong, or anything else.

I have to thank you for getting me in the mood to go look up Wii homebrew stuff again.
Just managed to recover hundreds upon hundreds of hours of saves that I had lost and given up on 2 or 3 years ago.

For your troubles, have this reaction image.
