I picked up this game last week. I tried to enjoy it. I tried to see the pros and cons, but honestly, after a while of trying, I dropped it. To be frank, I don't get the appeal. It doesn't feel like a worthy successor to Mother 2 at all; the charm is notably lacking and the humor feels forced. I wouldn't have minded so much had it not also been busy trying to be dramatic and "2deep4u", which is where my main gripe with the game begins. The times when it tries to be serious feels so out of place and unnatural, like a fanfiction written by somebody who misunderstood the appeal of the original source. It's not "Mother" at all. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a poor mimicry of the much more superior Earthbound 64 that we're never going to get.

Honestly, I should've just stuck with Earthbound.

I just finished Earthbound a few days ago and I'm about to move onto pic rel. Is there anything essential I should know before playing?

Well, I was playing pic related until I got to the part where it had fucking trannies in it. I don't mind the rhythmic combat system, but when you put trannies in the game, I'm walking away. This came out in 2006 mind you, so I'd expect shit like that to be in today's pozzed vidya. Seriously, what the fuck was Nintendo thinking?

I got as far as the monkey chapter before I lost all patience with this. Should I have kept going?

>first game is an all right jrpg with an incredible big world and openness for a nes game with an unique setting
>second game is more linear but still has the charm of the setting until the latter half where you don't go to cities anymore
>third games ruins the setting and becomes another generic jrpg

When will motherfags finally get it through their thick, famboy skulls that mother 3 is NEVER EVER coming to the west and finally let it fucking go? Its been what, like almost 20 yrs since it was released? Anyone thats wanted to play it has probably done so FOR FREE at this point by pirating it and applying the translation patch by mato. Why does anyone even want this fucking game to be released by Nintendo anyway? It doesn't even matter what their reasoning for not doing so is, bottom line is we all know if they ever translated it, anything even remotely mature in the game would be watered down as hell and peppered with stale, five year old internet memes. The only people who would buy it would be collectors who've all already played it a decade ago. And that's if it would even get a physical release at all(which it most likely wouldn't, resulting in even less sales). I like the series, too, but holy fucking shit, is the fan base insufferable. They act as if a fucking video game series changed their lives for being quirky and emotional. It might have made money had it been released years ago, but It ran its course and has been dead for decades. Let it fucking go already.

What are the best fan translated games? Pic related to get the most obvious one out of the way.

Just beat this game, and I'm a little confused. What happened when the dragon woke up? Is everything really gone? How did Porky get god powers? What happened to the old world?

as fiction, it’s very masterfully presented, right down to the meter of the lines — you’ll occasionally see entire passages in seven syllables per line (seven being something of a magic number for syllables in Japanese: the middle line of a haiku, for example). And as always, Itoi’s trademark sentence-structure-play, which has graced many a movie poster over the years, delights again and again, whether it’s popping up in the short disposable monologues of townspeople or rarely appearing in the middle of a long, significant conversation. (Itoi’s famous slogan for Hayao Miyazaki’s film “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, “Ochikondari mo stuffa kedo, watashi wa genki desu” — is parodied at one point, even: “Kietari mo stufferu kedo, watashi wa genki desu”)

In other words, well, words are very important to Mother 3. Words are at its core; words are its pride and joy. Translating it would, according to a dictionary, involve changing all of the words to another language. in the realm of games, where there are very often text-compression issues when translating from Japanese into English, what are the chances a translation of Mother 3 could be as free-wheeling and humorous as the Japanese version, while still retaining the dramatic weight where it counts? Mother 3 is as meticulously balanced as a narrative as it is as a videogame; it is balanced in only the way that something written in a single, emotionally-charged, secluded state by a single (and recently divorced) individual can be. It’s a snapshot of a brainstorm. Translating it would be like making a painting of a photocopy of that brainstorm. You’re bound to lose something, and if it loses something, it’s not perfect. For example, have you ever read Japanese or Chinese poetry in English translation? Line lengths all distorted all over the place; it’s not worth it, jack. It’s really not. In Japanese or Chinese, that stuff is perfect. There’s a reason they call it poetry

Recently bought Mother 3 fan translation for Game Boy Advanced and it got me wondering:

What's the best way to play GBA games? I have the GBA GameCube adapter, but the games are always blurry. What is a better option?

I beat Mother last night here's my thoughts

The story was extremely good and the characters also were great and really rememberable. The Masked Man was a really great character.

The gameplay I didn't like as much as Earthbound especially the 16 hit system, requiring to know sixteen frame perfect beats for all the hundreds of different monsters to get good damage against them isn't a good idea.

The setting was ok it was nothing special and there was no place in the game that left me with the same feelings that any lace of EB did.

The enemies at times were difficult to a fault and sometimes the difficult definitely felt forced in order to copy the previous games in the Mother series around chapter 6-7 I would say some bosses in those chapters were harder than the final starmen at the end of Earthbound.

All in all the story is definitely the greatest part of the game and kinda makes up for all the shortcomings it has.

>Not retro
It's not my favorite game ever (that's Final Fantasy 6), but Mother 3 is still leaps and bounds better than any other fucking JRPG. Mother 1 was about as good as a NES RPG not named Lagrange Point was gonna get and Earthbound was really enjoyable, but this's games blatant critiques of imperialism and capitalism are still the best in the genre while still feeling like it belongs in the same series and having humor that doesn't fall flat on its face.
