No. The moment you get serious with it, people pull out pocket Kevins because they can't handle losing in a 20 year old game. The game is fundamentally broken, and it is maddening because I love the series dearly. They could have made the game great with very small amount of tweaks, but that's just the familiar story with SNK games that aren't King of Fighters, isn't it?
