I really like Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R. No doubt in my mind they could've handled a proper 2D or 3D Sonic game with ease. Also Wrath of Cortex gets way too much hate imo, the character models may not be that pretty but it's essentially just like Warped with more vehicles. Also the soundtrack still slaps.

The Saturn and PC port got a major graphical upgrade and a different soundtrack, Saturn version in particular is known to have the best special stages. I grew up with the Genesis version though, it has a fantastic soundtrack too, and thankfully no load times.

I mean it's not a bad game. Just kind of long with no save system on either console for some reason. The Saturn version is unironically probably my favorite game on that system, and I've played a lot of them at this point.
