I asked a bit about this topic before in a previous thread, but I've forgotten some of the details and I didn't catch all the replies. And why not bring it up again anyway.

For pixel art like this, how much of the work was done on pen and paper, and how much was done on the computer? What kind of techniques were used? It seems to me like the pixelation and severe color limit would necessitate mostly manual work.
