Maybe if they're retards. I was 10 when this game came out and I begged for it for Christmas because I loved Nickelodeon style gross out humor and those ads and scratch and sniff cards sold me on it. I had no idea what the gameplay was like, but I was sold on fighting puke. The opening lines of the ad literally talk about it being the first RPG with BO and how you fight gaseous enemies. Kids aren't that stupid, they can pick up on context and love shit like puns.

In retrospect, that would have been the superior route to take. The fact that the game has a mid-twentieth century America atmosphere to it means that style of a marketing campaign would have lent itself to it well.

Most of the bosses are stuff straight out of drive-in movies like giant ants/moles, sea monsters, and blobs. A parody of old monster movies would have done a better job at getting the game across than over exaggerating the game's gross out segments.
