Jedi Engine is not based on Doom. All the formats involved are quite different and there's a complex "two renderers, one overlaid over the other" system for handling the few polygonial objects in DF.

I believe XWE lets you poke around a lot of the file formats, if using XWE in anno domini 2018 sounds like a fun time to you.
