I'll give you a truthful answer. You can go the consolized mvs with a banana cart. Expect to spend $250-500 depending if you can diy the solder work yourself or buy a kit.

If you want to play the games and not catch autism (catch it if you wan't not judging) but still have a really really close if not exact experience to the real hardware, get a MISTER. With MISTER you have all the games, and aren't missing real "gems" like windjammers which aren't on the banana cart. You can get a real AES controller and interface it to the MISTER or use a usb arcade stick.

If you have big bucks to spend, but not neo geo collector bucks, a flash cart is a good solution with real hardware, though expect to spend $750-1000 that way.

You can also emulate, but in my honest opinion, MISTER is best bang for your buck if you're not into playing games on your computer.

Feel free to disagree, my opinion isn't gospel on the subject, but with all the research and shit I did, this is the conclusion I came up with.

>Is it actually worth playing?
Hell yeah. It's basically a Metal Slug clone, but a very well done one. Neat animations, fun gameplay, with humor. Multiplayer is great on it, my wife and I beat the PS2 version several times.

There's a GBA port that is pretty well done too.

Neo geo cd isn't bad if you don't do emulation.

I heard somewhere that Capcom is using the emulator without permission from the people who made it. They have officially said they do not want the emulator sold in any way shape or form Is this true? isn't Capcom going to get heavy backlash for this, since they were so open on their site about using it?

Pretty good, definitely worth buying if you have a ngpc. Luckily they must have sold a lot of them because they aren't too terribly expensive.

Speaking of expensive, I just couldn't justify the cost of an AES or consolized MVS so I ended up emulating. Playing on my computer on pvm or consumer crt with an old arcadevga card I had lying around from back when I had a mame cabinet. It's pretty fun. Just FYI, if you plan on hooking an arcadevga up to a pvmeme, you can use an Extron 109xi to combine sync from arcadevga, works very well and cost $18 shipped.

I have a NGCD with a few burned Metal Slugs, it's fun but they weren't all ported to the CD unit.

Anyone played any of the bootleg Metal Slugs? I've not done so yet, just curious on the quality.

It's mister "I'm horribly broke so I can't afford real systems yet I have tons of super rare and expensive games and top tier flash carts and video equipment".

Just playin man but you give me a chuckle, saying you own clone systems because no money yet have thousands upon thousands of dollars of rare stuff you've posted here with notes.

No, how the hell would I afford retro and fill my shelves with rotting plastic if I spent it all on drugs?

not all games need to be 60 dollars. even the "big budget" games costing 60 bucks is a joke.

how is it that a movie can cost 100+ milliion dollars to make, cost 8 bucks to see in theaters, and cost 10-20-30 dollars to buy on dvd/blu ray and still turn a bigger profit than the 10 million dollar game that cost 60 bucks new?

i hope to god we as a human race get over being so wowed by computer graphics some day. it wont ever happen but i can still dream.

beat em' ups aren't niche, in fact its such a simple and easy idea to grasp that it deserve a presence in today's gaming market.

the only reason why we are lead to believe its niche is because of posters/people like the one i original quoted lead you to believe that its a negative thing, or "hipster" to enjoy things outside of whats popular and that is so fucked. sorry, im an individual, and as that individual i will enjoy my 2D hipster shit over assassins rehash anyday.
