What do you mean a fictional 18th century Transylvanian little girl with a French surname, has Japanese anime powers (Including a stand) accompanied by Chinese gods, dresses like a modern-day US girl , and battles a fictional vampire created by an Irish author in 19th century London based off a Romanian king makes absolutely no sense?

It's not like it has really strong competitors.

Both pretty interesting Konami efforts, Hybrid Heaven's battle system is one of the best and most creative I've seen on RPGs. The game failed to deliver in terms of overall design (a lot of people complain about the claustrophobic underground setting, etc), but combat is ace. It even has VS mode to play against a friend, and lets you use your customized character using the controller pak.
Some of the staff in that game also worked in Snatcher and, I believe, the MSX Metal Gear games, which is why it probably got the whole "it's the N64's MGS" thing, which isn't true because both games are nothing alike, though it might have a reference or two.

Castlevania 64 is pretty cool. I like how, in a way, it's like a 3D take of Rondo of Blood. You can choose whether the Belmont-descendant vampire killer or the little girl with magic powers, you can interact with certain NPCs which then will change the way the game envelops, etc.
It's a pretty ambitious game, only held back by the primitive camera, really.
I enjoyed the exploration-based levels (The Villa, Castle Entrance) more than the platforming-focused ones (fuck the tower of sorcery, although it's not really that bad, I mean, you'd also die a lot trying to do tricky jumps on older CV games, but in this one, it's easier to blame the camera than blame yourself).
The Villa in particular is, I think, one of the best moments in the entire CV franchise.
Have yet to play LoD, heard it's even better.

I also played the PSP version first and I don't even notice the different sound effect from the PS1 version. I thought the sound effects on the PSP ver are fine, nothing sounds wrong.

What are your thoughts on Castlevania 64?
I just finished the game with Carrie, got the bad ending, it seems it took too long, to be honest I wasn't rushing my way and just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything, it seems I still missed the secret item to unlock the Maria costume, damn it all.
I thought that for the most part it's a good game, considering it was a time 3D action games were still in diapers. The main problem is the camera, and most of my deaths were by falling into pits. I think the game's best levels were those with minimum to zero platforming and more focused on exploration/adventure (for example level 3 and level 5, which are the longest levels in the game), the infamous Nitro segment isn't even hard, just avoid jumping until you place the nitro in its place.
The most frustrating levels had to be the Tower of Sciencie and especially the Tower of Sorcery (really, a level that's a vertical platforming section with floating ice platforms that appear and disappear? that's just evil, but on the bright side, they're really short levels), I was also somewhat disappointed by the clock tower, it was too short and easy.
I would have died a lot of times during boss fights, but since you can heal by using items that makes things a lot easier. I also didn't spend enough money so I didn't got to fight Renon, another thing to look forward on my next playthrough.

I think I will start a new game with Reindhardt, to check out his exclusive levels, and see if I can make it in time to fight Dracula's real form this time. I have unlocked hard mode, but honeslty I don't know if I want to try it, enemies are annoying enough on Normal, and the most difficult things in the game are still gonna be hard (the platforming)... anybody played this on hard? do I gain something other than enemies that take longer to kill?
