-mech building is addicting
-fairly diverse set of mission objectives and levels
-hidden mech parts and weapons
-controls are dated but completely remappable and you can approximate something like a modern control scheme
-performance is really good which is weird considering how janky and unstable FS's other ps1 games are

Honestly this game feels way ahead of it's time. Are the two psx sequels as good as this one?

So do I have a small brain? Even after 5 missions I can’t get the controls down. Mainly having issues with dodging and boosting. Any tips?

I just finished this and while that last mission was a pain in the ass, the game was pretty fun. Which AC should I play next?

>This is the only test we give to people who want to become a Raven. You must battle against the opponent AC and survive. If you survive, you will be considered a Raven. That's all. Good luck.

Listen, /vr/, I've been trying to enjoy Armored Core 1. Lord knows I have been. But I just can't do it! I don't understand what's going on most of the time, whenever I get some new parts I can't use them for some reason I don't know how to alleviate, when I do win the battles it's usually just by standing still and spamming the missiles, I never feel like I'm learning anything, and the controls are just horrible.

What am I missing? Surely this game was popular enough to justify an entire franchise, so how do I get better and have more fun with it?

Don't mind me, just the GOAT mecha series

Literally The Best. MoA is still fun to play after you've collected every hidden part, done every mission and beaten every Arena opponent in the original series games

I don't think I've ever seen a thread like this on this board so here goes. Why don't we share a little bit about a retro-game that came along during a really rough time in our lives, that helped us escape even for a little while, or in some cases helped us start putting the pieces back together.
_______
WARNING: My story is a little fucked up...
_______
It was roughly around 1998 when my father and I had moved to the east-coast due to a divorce that ended with us financially forced to. During this time, basically renting from a friend of the family's while trying to find our footing. A rather dark chapter in my life happened, I was sexually abused by this "uncle" as he was regarded in relation to my family. After the rather nightmarish aftermath, freshly moved into a new city, my dad had bought me a new game to go with my Playstation he bought for my birthday of the previous year, That game was Armored Core. He knew my love for giant robots, and given our time watching Godzilla movies, classic Gundam cartoons, and Power Rangers, he thought this was a logical choice. What he didn't realize was that this game had struck me like lightening in that it help me vent in ways I still can't seem to adequately describe, and were I had become rather withdrawn(regardless of my father's truly best efforts), I found myself moving forward from the dark corner I realize now I had been slipping into. Since then I've had an appreciation, and tend to return to the old pilot-seat whenever things in my life just seem rather overwhelming, or when I miss it bad enough to start again.

>Care to share my fellow /vr/troopers?
