What's the point of this? Its not like the pixels are blending in a meaningful way like on the MD. CRTfags are so retarded.

Nah man, the way composite works is that it has to carry more data than the cable can handle leading to artifacts. The reason ntsc got rainbow waterfalls and why pal got plain transparency.
It's kind of a fucky topic, but yeah some games/systems were built with it in mind and it's how I experienced it so that's how I emulate it.

I don't really do the CRT shit because it looks weird and fake to me.

What baffles me most about it is that its artstyle by all means looks like it is a fucking eyesore, yet I just can't hate it. Especially since I noticed how the water transparency works. What a magnificent bastards they are.

Whoever is posting the filterz on Genesis games:
Show us the transparency dithering effects

>I know I'm likely in the minority here, but I don't care about getting the best signal out of my retro consoles.
"Best" is fairly case dependent. If you're into Genesis for instance, you more or less have to have a Composite output option handy since a ton of games heavily use dithering effects that don't work properly on S-Video, Component, or RGB signals.

Your strawman game is weak, bro. Anon said "illusion of greater detail".

Now try proving your point with actual screenshots instead of artifical examples.

If anything raw pixels are noisier than filtered/shaded screens, because the pixels do not blend, and the dithering/pseudo-tranparency techniques no longer work. Pic related.

Look at the Chrono Cross shots. In the first shot, the background plausibly suggests a coral reef in the middle-left. In the second shot, it looks like fucking glitch art.

I dunno man - look at the transparency difference here.

>Do you still get the correct dithering effects or does it cancel those out?
Are you talking about the Sonic 1 waterfall thing?
The Genesis/Megadrive is the system that has games take advantage of that kind of thing. Developers designed effects specifically to achieve that kind of blending on composite. Once you go above composite the effect is completely lost, even on S-Video. It's not a huge deal, I'd rather have a pixel perfect sharp image then smeary composite.

Except for the PC with higher resolution monitors, older games weren't really hard pixels.

Oh, that's cool. I've always wanted to play those games

I say you did damn well. I also just picked up a PVM-14m2U

S-video looks great on it. I think its because S-video has a little more bleed/blur to it.

and it can look more natural on some tittles (like how sonic 2 has no transparency effects when displayed with RGB)

take some more shots of your setup if you can. would love to see more.

Yeah, many games take advantage of the "blur" effect composite cables give to achieve transparency.
Pic related - on the right the waterfall looks transparent, as it's meant to, whereas on the left it looks banded and strange.
