At least we ruled this out.
I found nothing on google about deflection faults on the FW900 and it's chassis.
Sporadic defects and rare as this are still the worst to diagnose, especially if it's the device of someone else.
Just bear with it for now and start worrying if it gets worse and more often.
The only idea i have is that you check for dry solder joints and blown capacitors.

Nothing is faster at displaying any resolution than a CRT.

Imperfect geometry and convergence is common and pretty much unavoidable with CRTs, maybe less bad with the industrial PVMs/BVMs but i don't know it.
You can try to adjust it though but either you can make it better or worse, depending how many fucks your manufacturer gave.
With small CRT TVs they tend to have more simple deflection circuits with less settings like H-CENT, H-SIZE, V-CENT, V-SIZE, PIN (bridged) as in the BE-2A chassis in my KV-M1420D, KV-M1400D.
Bigger CRT TVs usually feature way more settings because they usually have a higher deflection angle to make less deep and smaller.
In this (old) pic you can the 16:9 hack of my KV-C2521D, the 2 relays (controlled by a microcontroller) switch V-SIZE and PIN AMP (previously CORNER COR.) with ones on the protoboard which are the same value but differently adjusted.
All the 9 timmers set the geometry which allows finer adjustment as 4-5 ones in the smaller set.

Yes, some testroms are supposed to freeze on my PAL SNES on both 50/60hz while higan and a NTSC sufamiclone on both 50/60hz passes. Many console revisions can cause great confusion once discovered, i don't want to know why i have these problems. I was using SD2SNES and reseted and tried these over and over again with the same result.

What's inside the SCART plug (you can usually unscrew it) and what's the region of your SNES?

Gamecube doesn't output composite sync, only the NTSC SNES/SFC.
