Prefer the SEGA CD personally but they're both good. >>11435505 is probably my favorite game on it

As the TurboGrafx-CD is technically an 8-bit machine, I'm going to go with Sapphire. Honorable mention to Cotton, Super Air Zonk, Magical Chase, Coryoon, and Parodius

However if you asked what my favorite NES shmup is, I would probably go with Gun Nac. Magical Chase also has a nice port on GBC

Actually it involves two people who aren't me doing something I'll never do, just like holding hands

Also Sapphire rocks

I'm excited for you OP. TurboGrafx-CD is one of my favorite consoles, it's great to play for the first time, fantastic games and library. Pic related

And I guess it has that Castlevania game or whatever too

Sonic CD is fine. Rondo does annoy me a little because there are plenty of other and better games on the TurboGrafx-CD, as well as other and better Castlevania games like SotN. In Sonic's case there's the rest of the trilogy, but nothing else quite like it on the SEGA CD, even despite standing among great games like Snatcher and Popful Mail.

I still need to give it a fair shake

That said, there are indeed other good (better?) TurboGrafx/PC Engine CD games. Pic related

Ys Series, Valis series, some nice fighting games and arcade ports. They are very similar though imho the TurboGrafx-CD is actually way more interesting, mainly because many of its games are actually exclusive and not shared with PS1. The shmups themselves are also better imo

Some people really like Mr. Gimmick and Trip World. Also anything on PC-98 or PC Engine. Sapphire resembles an early Saturn or PS1 game at some points. Mega Man Game Gear also resembles Wily Wars at some points. Pocket Fighter on WonderSwan looks really nice as well

My favorite games are the CD titles (especially pic related), but I recently played a few TurboChip games. The Parodius port is nice. Also tried Salamander but it's way too hard for me without instant respawn. I meant to play Rabio Lepus Special and Coryoon and some point and just never got around to it

I haven't played it in a while. Mostly like it for the CD games like Sapphire and Cotton, but it has a few good TurboChip games too like Magical Chase and Coryoon. Anyway thanks for sharing OP, felt wild watching this in 2023. I know Tony Hawk did a Turbo commercial but never knew Mccaulay was into it too

That makes sense considering it's an 8-bit machine? Turbo CD is an add-on, not a whole new system

This. When I was growing up it was just gaming, not retro lol. Always had emulators on PC but got into clone consoles around 2010 and emulator handhelds a few years later. Wasn't until recently when I started playing some of the more obscure consoles like SEGA CD and TurboGrafx-CD.
