in order for the og texture to be raised up as opposed to engraved, the light would have to be coming from the bottom, which I suppose is possible, but would make it inconsistent with other objects that are lit from the top. That's why I initially envisioned it as being engraved (right side), but then decided to try and replicate the film prop, although I changed the dimensions and placement of the symbol slightly so there's less awkward empty space in the upper right corner

a lot of goldeneye's textures were created using photographs taken on the actual film set, however closer inspection shows that many textures were also re-created with some differences and embellishments.

pic related, the "eye" containing the GoldenEye key (in the film) is an obvious example - note the missing lateral "stripe" in the game. i don't hate the game's design, but i like that the film version resembles a crosshair which evokes the idea of targeting, and therefore the purpose of the GoldenEye weapon, so I created a compromise where I combined that aspect of the film design with the darker coloring and increased depth of the game design. hopefully you guys like the result
