>Coins are practically useless. The only thing that they let you do is play the golf minigame.
Yeah, agreed.

I only recently beat VBWL, but it does the same coin-based ending thing as in WL1. (And they both also do gambling minigames, and minigames where you spend coins for a chance at extra lives.)

In WL2, coins are used for minigames that unlock the treasures in each level, and the map pieces at the end of each level that merge together to show the very last stage. It uses the same invincibility mechanic from WL3 where you just drop coins, but the challenge is presented differently. You're less worried about enemies knocking you off platforms or deactivating your power-up, forcing you to repeat a section; and you're more worried about how that enemy you just ran through while platforming might have wrecked your chance at collecting the level's treasure.

WL3 isn't bad. But on a philosophical level, I just feel like coin collecting should have some purpose in a Wario game. If you're playing as a greedy dude, it should feel rewarding to grab cash.

>Is it "so long gay Bowser!"?
Yes. That's not actually a tail Mario grabs.

Wario Land 2 is pretty amazing, but I must be the only guy who legit thinks that 3 is the best in the series and one of the best platformers ever made. I mean, it's basically 2 except with a more open world structure and more emphasis on puzzles and exploration. Why it gets the hate on here is beyond me.

This game is obviously not rare, look how many copies are available for sale. It was a premium priced late wave game that sold very poorly at retail - but those copies didn't get buried in a landfill or anything, they circulated on the NOS market.

An Earthbound box can certainly be unopened, but it would be very hard to verify that.

I got my copy brand new for $20 when I worked at a used video game store. Some guy brought in a whole case of, I believe, six of them. I sold it in 2009 for $450 and didn't shed a single tear.

I am almost positive that there was a conspiracy among resellers to drive up the price of this particular game and I'm not talking about that small time guy that beats you to yard sales either. The person I sold mine to was very very anxious to get a copy and he owns multiple stores and has buddies who also own stores. Apparently the price went as high as $700+ briefly before the VC version was announced.

tl;dr Earthbound prices are one of the most flagrant examples of fixing conspiracy in this hobby.
