I never understood the appeal of this franchise. Sure, by straight-to-console standards they were pretty good belt-scrollers, but it feels to me that people who praise this trilogy are mostly console babbies who never bothered to try out arcade games very much. I think even the most mediocre Capcom beat-'em-up outclasses SOR2.

I always found the original Streets of Rage to be overrated and I think it's a miracle that it got a sequel. It's basically a Golden Axe reskin in an urban setting. I'm guessing kids back then were just desperate to play any beat-'em-up with a 2P mode on a 16-bit console, no matter how lackluster it was, but I much rather play the SNES Final Fight. Thank God that the sequels were superior
