What's so fascinating about a shitty, underpowered commercial appliance designed to extract money from people who do not know any better.

Why not use, say, a raspberry pi 4. They're more powerful than shitty emu appliances.
I'd still go with a miSTer, because at least the approach is fundamentally different.
If I wanted to run emu software, I'd just use my pc, much better than these mini consoles. Raw power + running the version I want of the emu of my choice vs some shit that happens to run well on some lowcost mips trash thanks to dramaticallyinnacurate emulation.
