i just beat dq5, and didn't like it as much as dq4 and dq3.
i'm guessing japan really liked seeing the main character grow up, being able to choose who to marry, and having a family party along with monster allies.

the story was alright, but my main draw to dragon quest is long dungeons and not knowing if i'm going to make it because mp restores are scarce. also the son didn't seem to be the great hero like i assumed? like he got multiheal and insulate, but he never surpassed the main character. the zenithian equip should have been better or something.

My only problem with DQV is that she really is the best choice. Since you spend no time with the other girl (girls if you play the DS version).
Also in the SNES version if you pick Flora Bianca's dad dies which is a pretty fuck you from Horii.

Not at all. Since Jump was one of the main reasons why it was such a big hit Toriyama was 100% needed to sell it. Remember this came out right when Dragon Ball was made so his name was giant back in the days.

I really wish they kept his art style in the US. I know anime didn't really hit it big until the late 90's but it still would have been nice.

SNES mostly increased the EXP and Gold I think. Also added a new class I think thief. As for balance I think they kept most of the balance. Maybe made it a tiny bit easier but not by much.
