Yes. Better rev up those arms because you'll be throwing a lot of rocks in training. Or pick random battles on the map. There's a trick involving setting both sides on AI and making a homemade cake for two hours to pass the time, though.
A tip for leveling up is getting the MVP rank for one of your units in a fight: have him/her land the finishing blow on more than six or five enemy units to get an extra level at the end of the match. Units will gain more experience if they fight against this unit on training to get on par. It's either this or dealing with the PSP retarded class level system.
Also, try to change classes every 15 or 20 levels to improve on stats because you gain points per level; If your knight is too slow, have him gain some levels as a ninja to improve his AGI and that. But don't worry... archers and Canopus make the game a joke at the late game.
