I was an early adapter to LCDs. I've never personally owned a 1600x1200 CRT (if I did I don't remember) or any 16:9 monitors. In FPS games especially having a super small reticle looked terrible. I never understood the hipster love for monitors like a fw900 etc. This is in retrospect. At the time I loved it. Going back from my current 1080p gsync monitor though it's bad.

Old PC games have different style huds for that reason I think. They were small and simple.
