I like the dreary semi-apocalyptic world set up in Escape From New York, where WW3 has happened and there's been limited WMD exchanges (I think largely chemical ones, New York was hit by nerve gas which drove people nuts), so things have gone pretty shit, but without complete societal collapse.
A guy like Plissken being a famous outlaw looking out for himself in this cynical and hopeless world, caught and exploited for petty government power plays, and he fucks them in the ass.
