The main problem imo is that enemies were incredibly aggressive and hard to dodge in the first game, as they should, but 2~4 toned them down.

I did a 10 star run on it recently and while not shit is definitely the worst of the 4. There's a shit ton of awful stock sound effects, even if don't mention the burping nurses. Levels feel too disconnected from each other. Escort mission, I lost the best ending because that fucking retarded cunt got stuck during a bossfight and took 100 hits to the face. Final boss having a time limit is also shit. Also limited inventory.

>have to hold a button to move the camera
>camera is badly designed so suffers from gymbal lock/has to do big horrible drunken archs to face certain directions
>the camera fucking moves and tracks indoors when there's no real reason for it, making it even more disorienting and obscuring a door or two in the hospital hallways
>never even creates interesting compositions and doesn't need to exist because the game has tank controls

>combat is designed around dodging, but your character is so fucking slow to respond, doesn't have any sort of actual dodge move, and will stop to play a stun animation from a neutral state when they take even the smallest amount of damage
>in fact, ALL animations have to start from a neutral state. So there's no damage->move animation pose, no run->draw weapon pose, no weapon drawn->take damage pose, etc
>can't so much as walk and aim the shotgun
>forces you into combat multiple times, so "hurr durr you're supposed to run" doesn't hold up
>combat is so clunky and shit that the fights become about tanking damage, using healing items and firing your most powerful gun until the boss is dead
>the fastest attack requires holding R1 + forward + X and tapping square with the plank equipped

>controller layout is shit
>Select solely exists to pause the game....even though the Start menu also pauses the game
>Start is also the "OK" prompt in menus
>the right stick does nothing until you hold L2
>Circle is a dedicated light on/off button that you'll never use
>have to hold R2 to ready an attack

>fighting the Pyramid bros means holding L2, the right stick, R2, X and the left stick, stopping when you have enough distance to fire the shotgun from a static position, then repeating over and over until victory
>Eddie involves just standing still and unloading the shotgun into him, chugging health drinks until he dies

Anyone who thinks Silent Hill 2 is supposed to be mechanically shite is lying to themselves so hard they may as well be in hospital.

Everytime I hear about modern gaming it's like a 1-2 punch. The first punch being just how fucking bad it is and now neutered all the games are. I just get completely fucking blindsided by the shit they get away with. The second being the people who actually defend this shit. They would lick diarrhea off the floor if a AAA developer told them to.

If anybody is going to emulate Silent Hil 1 on epsxe be adviced that there is a bug that crashes the game when you arrive at the church, you can only alt-f4 from it.

This may or may not happen to you but if it does it's due to the widescreen hack. Play at 4:3 or use Stretch on your video plugin settings.
