I've finished all TES games and while I think that some of Daggerfalls elements are novel and it has occasionally good atmosphere, it's still a fairly shallow and repetitive experience.

Daggerfall

I found it really hard to get into at first
and it has a huge amount of flaws for sure
but once it clicks it's really relaxing.

It's an interesting approach to game design but can get very frustrating.
I also think it lacks personality due to it's procedual generation aspect.

It does have it's moments though, even if theyre far and few between.

I grew up on Nintendo and seriously missed out on computer rpgs.

What are some decent ones that you think an rpg fan should have tried?
What are sme lesser known ones that you really like?

Complex character customization, decent paper dolls and an interesting setting are a big plus.

Daggerfall is neat in concept, but kind of underwhelming in execution.
Morrowind just vastly improved everything other than the size, although MW was still more than huge enough.
Oblivion did some things better but most worse.
It's pretty much a step back to Arena and Daggerfall.
I haven't played Skyrim yet, but it seems to be a step in the right direction again, albeit a small one.
It appears to be still too similar to Oblivion,
so basically Ye Olde GTA.

I think the problem with Elder Scrolls is that Morrowind was only so good because they literally put everything they had into it as the future of the studio depended on it.
If it hadn't been a success Bethesda would have been shut down.

Now they can be more lazy again and rely on stupid gimmicks that are just annoying after a while, namely Oblivion gates and dragon fights.
I mean, seriously, how can you ruin dragon slaying?

Elder Scrolls Online has some neat stuff but feels very off.
The plot is really dumb and tailored to fit the MMO style of gameplay.
Many things just don't make sense.

I hope it bombs and makes Bethesda more ambitious again.

As for Daggerfall, I enjoyed playing my Khajiit thief.
Doing thief guild jobs, punching deadra. and giving the Numidium to the orsimer for maximum hilarity.

Does anyone use mods for Daggerfall?
The only thing I ever did was painting my own portrait (pic related)

I had the same problem when I first played Morrowind on release.
Just wandered around aimlessly and accepted quests everywhere and stopped playing out of boredom and confusion.
A couple years later I tried it again, kept mostly to the main plot and loved it.

Daggerfall is similar in that regard but exploring is just kind of unrewarding and boring and the main plot isn't too interesting.

Daggerfall kinda feels more like an exercise in lazy game design rather than an interesting world.
