If you loved Mother 2 Mother 1 is definitively worth playing so you understand the stories and catch some of the easter eggs in Mother 3 that you will only get by playing Mother 1. It improves Mother 3 so much, you have to trust me. There are some major overarching themes that all come together in Mother 3, just from small hints and callbacks.

I'm shit at videogames right, but Mother 1 was my first NES RPG and it was a really nice experience although I lost interest near the end when difficulty spiked. It's just so charming but in a simple NES game.

Mother 3 goes without saying too but I think you should play after Mother 1.

There's Yume Nikki and if you enjoy that there are the various Yume Nikki spiritual sequels and unofficial sequels, .flow being the best. Although you need to go in knowing that it's not an RPG. It's more like an exploration game with dream logic where you need to collect a certain amount of items. There's even an entire world inspired by Mother 1, it's normally got 16 bit graphics.

Omocat is doing a new game that looks inspired by Earthbound too. (They're a fan of it I've seen lots of fanart from Earthbound on their tumblr.)

I know it's not commonly accepted like say Fallout and Wasteland, but it's just the feeling I get from the series personally. I was more talking about the game's tone and setting. There's so much ot get into but I think I mentioned most of it.

He also said the connection between Mother 1 and 2 was up to the player. It's not like this is really an objective argument and invalidates my feelings on it. Do you have a link to this quote though? It sounds really interesting. I think Itoi worked on the game that eventually became Animal Crossing. The whole game is about moving out of your house and the way the game reminds me you to phone your mom reminds me of Earthbound.

>Pokémon is still the series that resembles the Mother series the most, I think.

The only other game I can think of is Yume Nikki. The graphics look somewhat visually similar to Earthbound for most of the game, but it has a whole area that looks like it has been intentionally styled after Mother 1 except they designed it to be claustrophobic and depressing instead of an adventurous open world.

I grew up with Wallace and Gromit. Feathers McGraw also had a bizarre hidden subplot in Reboot which was also really popular here.

>name characters after my family in Mother 3
>name claus after my best friend from childhood who moved away
>cry hard because my mom dies and my dad becomes neglectful and angry and my best friend became a soulless cyborg zombie
