There was a slight delay before the PC release, it was not day and date. The bulk of their money was from their game center businesses at the time. They were not fully reliant on console sales.

It is like the cursive E. A nice smooth motion to write it out.

I played them in the late 90s. Doujins have been great, I had >>8132345 on my computer then too. Which was a shooting game, where you can shoot the clothes off the girls of the game.

Well, the only difference was the mousepad in those boxes. There was A-type and B-type, the reprint is just A-type but with a sharper printing process which looks better. The PC version came with a nice pen inside a wooden box.

It is impressive how Sega bet the farm on both Shenmue and the Sakura Taisen series. Both ended out to be money toilets. Their budget for the Sakura Wars games was immense spanning years and they got nothing for it. The game series is representative of all of their failures and a cautionary tale which has kept their competition afloat.

A full game from the dollar bin. It is a flawed game like Monopoly, which everyone seems to have played but is ultimately unenjoyable, but at least it was only a dollar. They are plentiful like Maddens.

It is made by Sega, famous for failure. You probably recognized the failure.

The story and scenario is by Akahori, who made a career out of "one guy and many girls" and getting an artist to depict it. When Sega asked him for his best concept, he said "one guy, FIVE girls" then Sega was like "bah gawd! We have a HIT!". The sequel came along and Sega asked for more, and he tricked them they thought it would be 6 girls, but he said "No! One guy, seven girls!" and Sega was floored again by his genious.

The artist they chose to do the character designs are by Fujishima, who did the original comic to You're Under Arrest and all the Tales games. I guess you might see it similar to the Tenchi series as it was made in the 90s and it is in color. Otherwise, I cannot see any relation.

It was also released for PC around the same time. The game was heavily advertised during the commercial breaks of Evangelion back then. It was pretty effective as it did sell very well on Saturn but these days they sit in cheap junk bins for real cheap.

Sakura Taisen 1+2 did very well in Japan on the Saturn. Sega ported the PC versions of 1+2 to the Dreamcast to bide time for their huge investment into 3's development. I remember so many articleson the intensive development of 3, as it was intended to be a Dreamcast killer app. They redesigned the tactical combat away from pre-rendered sprites to polygons, they were one of the firsts to do away with the grid based system to a combo based spherical ranged movement/attack system, featuring all new character portraits and voice talent. Sakura Taisen 3 was a huge undertaking costing Sega so much that it was a shame it was a failure. The game was so bad, they had to rush out 4 onto the Dreamcast, down to just 3 chapters from the usual 10-12 chapters, into a visual novel for all the characters to say farewell, just to recoop some of the development costs. It was a monumentous failure by Sega. Sure it seemed like a decent gamble to try to innovate on what seemed to be a success, but making bad games caught up to Sega.

I never opened the game discs (they are individually wrapped). Only opened to see the cool pen encased in a wooden box with velvet interiors. At that time I was on Windows 2000 so I couldn't play it anyway. Today I was messing around with my 486DX4 and I realized I should have installed J-Win98SE instead of regular Win98SE (actually, I need a better computer first to J-Win98SE). I think there are English patches and torrent downloads of the PC games now.

If Japanese is not an issue, then the Dreamcast would be the platform of choice for this series.

Just saying I've played the games and it is what I think of them. Here, for non 4-chan humor-speak:

The series is nice, but I wish the characters have more depth to them. The strategy and tactics aren't anything to write home about. They did improve the combat engine appropriately with a hard gamble on the series on its 3rd mainline release. Budget is what the publishers had to struggle with in developing these games. It is unique attempt in a visual novel style to make conversations more naturalistic with the LIPS system. That being said, few outside Japan enjoy the games.

My Japanese level is not strong, but it is enough to get me through the game. I would place it as a couple steps above the childish Japanese of Grandia, but not as difficult as the Japanese used on Xenogears' 2nd disc, where my eyes glazed over from the reading. The visuals and voices do help in providing context clues, but the LIPS system does require some fast reading, as responses can change/disappear/appear over time, and a non-answer is also an answer as well in the game.

It is nice the games are cheap, that's why I got the special editions later, and they are well packaged and presented beautifully. The answer to OP's 2nd question: "If investigating, one of the factors to the Saturn's and Sega's demise as a curiosity, it may be worth exploring the games to gain a better picture."

There, free of the 4-chan humor. Happy?

Also notice how I do not have 4. I even introduced the games/series to a friend, and he even got 4 when even I didn't, to tell me it was only a few missions/chapters just to gather everyone together for one last time to say goodbye. Only at my first post there finally read the wikia to spoil a bit of 4 and found out: Kanzaki Sumire, who prides herself in her skill (the better than everyone else ojou), lost her power and had to fade away in retirement, which mirrors Sega's fate. A narrative which is tragic to me, but reflective of the cold reality. The doctors gave us the chance to say goodbye, and now we're escorted out to allow for the plug to be pulled. Roll credits.

I know the struggle of being poor. Part of it is regret, and I do regret that I got so much Sakura Taisen games, they are like Japan's equivalent to the USA's Madden games.

Why not just pair that Keyboard with just a Dreamcast mouse? Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and Outtrigger are default mouse+keyboard games, which is still my preferred FPS control scheme over dual analog sticks (can still use, but somehow I like the feel of mouse+keyboard more for that genre). The Saturn's Sakura Taisen mouse may not match some variations of Saturn systems. Sure it may not match the nice pink DC keyboard, but even on my PC my mouse do not match my keyboard.
