I think that it's -probably- acceptable in my opinion to mod a GBA if you do not wreck it in the progress, and actually play it. Shit, I finally modded my 40pin GBA I was given as a Christmas present just recently, and have taken the greatest of pains to ensure that it will work with the original hardware. I mean I had to remove a capacitor for the laminated ITA screen, but that's something I can fix with a soldering iron and a new cap, zero problem. That same GBA was my travel companion and digital best friend all through middle and high school, with hundreds if not thousands of hours spent on it during hospital and nursing home visits. I also personally play a metric fuckton of GBA games still to this very day, either on a front or backlit SP, or on a beater GBA I bought off of Ebay and refurbished.I personally hate and abhor "collectors" though - be they the sort that buys a console and mods it, only to never use it again or the slightly worse sort that go out of their way to buy expensive/complete systems, gut the poor unit and play a few minutes before realizing they would rather be browsing social media and just sell or throw the machine away.

Rambled more than a bit with this post. The GBA is one of those things I have a passion and strong opinions for/about. I've also bought way too many GBA carts over the past few weeks, send help.
