It really does serve no purpose whatsoever and I dont know what the hell they were thinking with it. The overall board quality is the same with or without the rule, it just forces people to make even more threads. And when something useful or good is in one of those threads killed by autosage, it's available for that much less time.
And anything that's fit to be a general wouldn't survive in /vg/, because it'll get bumped off in about 10 minutes by a hundred generals for gacha games nobody in their right mind would play.
