This guy gets it. Super Metroid is exploration-based gameplay perfected, methodically exploring each new pathway is very satisfying. It has a lot in common with LttP too with how it sometimes shows the player areas they can't access, so they make a mental note to revisit after finding new equipment.

I was about halfway through Maridia when it clicked for me and I realized SM was one of the best games I'd ever played.

The beginning of SM is actually very harsh for new players, and if you don't beat it I completely understand thinking it sucks; Samus can't run fast, her gun sucks, can't jump high, ect. But over the game you gradually upgrade Samus in every way, and by the time you beat Ridely your weapons and movement are so enhanced that the trip back to Tourian just swimming through enemies and environments in the most satisfying way.
