I've found the "lag" on hd crt is often purely based on the model you have and exaggerated as a whole. Some HD CRT are pretty lagless, others have the same as a flat panel lcd tv.

Either way, if you can get one, they look absolutely stunning for watching movies. I have a widescreen, which will produce autistic screeching in some, but there isn't enough lag to matter or notice, even on shit that takes precision like umihara kawase. It is a thing of beauty for watching anime or widescreen movies on.
