I often see people say that Samus was the first female video game protagonist. Is that true, or was there a playable character who originated in video games before her?

I mean, we could go there. What kind of woman becomes a solitary space mercenary? One that doesn't even seduce and/or poison anybody? Come on. Had these writers ever even known any women?

6'3 and 200 lbs isn't lightly toned. this art is lightly toned, i'll give you that. whichever one you go with, she's still much bulkier than zero suit.

Last thing to add: memory is cheap now, which makes this thing totally obsolete, even by retro hardware standards.

The point is solid state memory is competitive with optical technologies today. This wasn't the case in 1990. Times have changed. If you really want to produce a game with a stupid huge ROM today to be played on original hardware, rather than going the CD-ROM route, quite frankly it's much easier and makes much more sense to just design a cart with mapping hardware (like NES games, Everdrives, etc.). It would be faster and more simple to program against than CD too because you wouldn't have to have I/O buffers and shit.

This thing is proof of the odd bedfellows of 90s gaming, but nothing more.
