It's super-easy and totally worth it, but it does add some bulk to your setup. You can try and nab a stereo receiver or integrated amplifier from craigslist or a flea market or whatever, like the spiffy Nikko receiver in pic related, here. An amplifier would be a similar unit, just dedicated to only processing sound, while a stereo receiver has a built-in radio tuner, but both would be performing the same basic function here, and both would have a similar-looking rear panel. You'll also need a set of speakers sized to your liking and some speaker wire.

Plug your composite video lead into the TV like normal, but plug the red and white audio leads into any pair of the RCA input jacks (circled in red). Then put your speaker wires into the positive and negative speaker output posts (circled in green) and you're good to go. If you decide to go this route, it's all pretty easy to put the pieces together once you've got them in hand.

Alternatively, if you want to buy a cheapo compact stereo amplifier from Amazon, something like this:
>https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-2020TI-Instruments-TPA3118-Amplifier/dp/B071FJF4FF/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_2?keywords=Lepai+LP-2020TI+Digital+Hi-Fi+Audio+Mini&qid=1555726869&s=electronics&sr=1-2-fkmrnull
It would largely be fulfilling the same function. If you poke around you might be able to find one that also has a headphone jack so you could do that and take up even less space.
