>I understand why fans who've never played the Saturn version would be interested in those features, but I really, really don't feel good about them. I couldn't put my name on that stuff and present it to Castlevania fans.

Wanted to replay Castlevania SotN and finally played the Saturn port. The new areas were a lot smaller than I expected but neat enough. It really sucks there is no select button on a Saturn controller it made me aware of just how much I open the map on my playthroughs. I still think I'm going to stick with the PSX version, what version do you prefer.

but
Symphony of the Night is a 4/10

This has Maria, that's a whole extra character to play as, the bugs and weird idiosyncrasies between it and the PS1 version can't be enough to make it not the best version right?

Is the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night unplayable, or are the performance issues something you can look past? I only own the Saturn version.

The 1.0 version of the English translation patch for the Sega Saturn version of Symphony of the Night has released. There is a link to it here:

https://segaxtreme.net/threads/sega-saturn-26th-anniversary-game-competition.24626/

I'm currently playing it now, I haven't gotten very far in, but so far everything it working fine. I've played the shit out of this game on the PS1 and PSP, so it'll be nice to finally be able to check out the Saturn exclusive areas/items without having to fumble through menus and items lists in moon language.

Has anyone else fired it up yet?

Just got pic related in the mail today.

Does it connect to various Saturn RAM cartridges or some shit? I have a KoF95 cart plugged in and I'm playing this--I read online that this version has some terrible slowdown but so far it's nowhere near as bad as people claim it to be. It's definitely there, but it's only for like one second each time. Loading times ~seem~ to be the same as the PS1 version as well.

As for the sprite distortion, it's there but I don't really notice it seeing that I'm playing on composite

I'm not at home right now so that's why I'm asking here.

I don't think this game is as good as its reputation would have you believe. It's definitely a beautiful game with excellent art design, but I just don't think the gameplay is very focused.

The double-tap running in the reverse castle singlehandely make the game 100% more fun, and that's without mentionning all the other extra content, new areas, new musics, new enemies, new gear including new weapons with new special moves, etc

What's with all the SotN threads lately? Did an e-celeb make a video of the game after discovering it for the first time because it was its 20th birthday?

Also you wouldn't have this voice debate if you were playing the superior version of the game.

In English Richter was voiced by Scott McCulloch, who also voiced Chris in RE1.
He also voiced the protagonist of another survival horror: The Note.

Very cute game. Seems that when the internet figured out how few copies there were it quickly became the holy grail of Saturn games, goes for more or about the same as Panzer Dragon Saga.

Really wish I had known about Super Tempo before the jews swooped in, but eh

I've killed too many hours of my life playing through this and Rondo, and there are undoubtedly some cool extras in the SS version but it's pretty annoying playing a game like this in Japanese. I can't see a translation patch for this ever happening either, it doesn't seem like anybody gives a shit about it. Hell the PS1 jpn version has a translation patch just because people hated the English voice acting enough.

Emulation wise, it runs pretty well on SFF, I haven't tried yabause yet, I've only ever tried thst on my shit computers that run linux.

It's kind of frustrating though, having to leave some pretty cool twists untouched on my end though..
