Around 1998 my dad got a new computer with windows 98, or maybe it was 95 who knows at this point. There was a game that came with it, all I remember was a guy waking up in a treehouse, it was 3rd person top-down sort of thing. It was in a dark forest environment. All I remember is a lot of dark green, and at one point he clicked on a red button and got punched in the face by a boxing glove on a spring. i think it was isometric or close to it. Does anyone know the game? I am pretty sure it was just a demo because we couldn't play past the first part. My memory is really fucking faded but I'll try to provide more details if I can.

>We literally have proof of games being made harder for no other reason to stop people from beating games on a weekend
Okay, where's the proof? Yeah, publishers have asked for games to be more difficult sometimes, but that's because the American market demanded hard video games. The harder a (good) video game was, the more enthusiasm it would generate. You might not remember this because you're a fucking autistic loser with no friends, but we'd never discuss easy games with our friends. It would be the difficult games we'd talk about and enjoy playing.
If the market liked easy games, they would have made them easy. People liked hard games, so they made them hard. It has nothing to do with "muh artificial difficulty and weekend rentals."

There's something about these games that i really enjoy... Played Dungeon Master a lot on Amiga as a kid, and loved the whole setting of venturing into a dungeon / tomb with four heroes (even though i never got very far). When i got older and saw that LoG was in development, i got super excited. Loved it, but i loved the sequel even more, it felt like the first game but improved. I also played through the Dungeon Master quest made in the first LoG game.

I think what i like about the games is the somewhat grimdark setting, and the hands-on approach. You just get tossed straight into the adventure, with no real clue on what to do or where you are, you just know that you need to traverse the "dungeon", and hopefully make it out alive. Dungeon Master was the perfect kino for me, the way you need to manage your characters food and water, filling up waterskins on the UI and "discovering" magic spells by combining runes was very neat.

Anyone else started enjoying softer and more basic mods/wads after playing through a lot of others? While giant arsenal and chaotic megawads with BD/PB levels of messiness can be fun, I just now prefer playing vanilla shit with minor enhancements.
