Legends of Eternity: The Dungeons of Doom, a 1993 epic Super Famicom dungeon crawler with turn based combat a la Shining in the Darkness or Might & Magic III, though with a semi-fixed party and a focus on plot. The game featured a few nice anime-style cut-scenes, tough the plot was considered simple and cliche by the standards of the day. The dungeons were sprawling, as were the cities. The game had a somewhat dark subject matter concerning an evil cult taking over the world. However, all overt references to religion were excised from the american version. The plot-heavy game suffered from a bad translation, confusing the player and making the plot feel vague and leading players to get stuck at some puzzles, only beating them using tips, or by brute force. The 32 megabit cartridge was quite expensive to manufacture and it sold poorly, forcing the planned sequel, Legends of Eternity: The Portals of Infinity, to be scrapped.
Europe did not get a release.
