I think it's the lack of a panoramic view more than anything, you don't get to see the whole stage at once like you do in BK.

Bubblegloop Swamp in BK had a bit of this confusion because of the similar looking quadrants surrounded by walls, and Mad Monster Mansion caused a bit of camera conflict at some points because the camera angle was locked.

But yeah, the non-linear gameplay and 1000 different game modes starting on stage 1 makes the soup a bit more all over the place.

I enjoy it, though.
