The novel is a piss poor imitation of a Michael Crichton scientific thriller for most of its runtime. Then it falls apart into typical Japanese slop by the end with slimegirl rape, Big Futa Cock™, and a super baby wielding psychokinetic powers.

I'd play a game that sticks closer to the novel. I don't know what genre would best suit it though. Would have been a cool point and click adventure back in the 90s with equal parts goopy slime girl rape and dense medical terminology.

No. In fact, I'd reccomend not skipping the book, either. The first game is already a sequel on its own.

I read the novel before ever touching the game, and holy mother of God, it made the game feel GODLIKE.

It respects the source material so God damn well. It really is a sequel to the novel.
