>I really don't get why people ask for remakes anymore. Almost none of them are any good.
Here's the single biggest problem with remakes: the teams that do them are not anywhere near as talented as the original devs. Everything about "soul" and all the other complaints can be reduced down to that. The original games were made by extremely talented, passionate teams operating on the cutting edge of technology at the time and actively pushing the envelope.

Remake teams are average devs assigned a task by corporate leadership and make use of the tools they have available. That's not to denigrate their work by any means, but they are not the same caliber of the original devs. Their decision-making process is simply not as inspired or innovative as those who came before. At worst, they even think they can "improve" on the original, which is complete bullshit unless the game they're remaking was originally extremely flawed but nobody ever does that. It's just an IP rights refreshment exercise 99% of the time.

Any 3rd party household name NES series that aren't in smash bros yet are unknown to the average nintendo fan. They might recognize the names and sprites from Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Double Dragon, or River City Ransom, but I doubt they could tell you which name goes to which sprite. Same goes for any sega game that isn't sonic.

It definitely still exists - there are plenty of new shmups and arcade inspired indie games coming out all the time made by the sorts of nerds who themselves love the best score attack games of the past. But I think as home gaming started getting more ubiquitous and technology started allowing for better graphics and sound and game design complexity, people just wanted bigger and more varied experiences. They valued games that told stories and had a sense of going on a journey like RPGs or action/adventure games, or simulated complex systems like strategy games, or just games that can last much longer than a session at an arcade cabinet and offer constant novelty as you make your way through it. In the face of something like Mega Man or SMB3 or Final Fantasy, a score attack game based around running the same stuff over and over to get good at it for its own sake just seems antiquated to a lot of people. Also, in the long period between the decline of the arcade and before online leaderboards, who are you going to be competing in NiGHTS against besides yourself?

Am I the only one that never really cared much for Resident Evil Remake?

I've always loved RE 1, it's in my top 3 games of all time, but I only finished RE Remake once and never wanted to touch it again.

There's nothing wrong with this thread, it actually has some vaguely interesting points regardless of OP. Your lame attempt at dismissing what you don't like by equating it with "lol flat earth" is reddit tier faggotry.

Hi /vr/ I want to start playing Metroidvanias. I've been told that Super Metroid is the best way to begin.

What's the definitive way to play Super Metroid in 2018?

Also what are other games in the genre (old and new) that are worth trying?
