It's the only game that translates well on All-Stars, probably because it's a completely different game. The floatier physics actually work a bit in it's favor, and it manages to capture the best things about the NES version with pretty minimal sacrifice. It's almost like All-Stars was built around 2.
Each of the four characters handle differently (Mario and toad run very similar tho), so imo it's more replayable than the rest of the NES quadrilogy.

SMB3 > SMB2 > SMB1 > Lost Levels

I'm American and I think Nintendo made a smart move giving us our own shitty little pallette-swapped Mario 2.
